ID verification
Last verified: October 4, 2026This guide is for the SAGE app (version 3) and management portal you use today. See the guide for the new apps.
Why we ask for ID verification
Verifying your identity helps keep your community safe by confirming who you are. When you verify, you take a photo of your government-issued ID in the app, and SAGE saves it to your account.
- At the gate - If your ID is on file, a guard using the SAGE guard app doesn’t need to photograph your ID when logging your entry.
- Kiosk calls - Visitors use a call directory to call residents from the gate kiosk. To be listed, you must be a verified resident or tenant whose access isn’t suspended and who has calling turned on. Verifying alone doesn’t list you.
- Once is enough - Verification belongs to your account, not to a property, so you don’t need to do it again for each property.
The app says your personal data will be encrypted and protected at all times. You can read the Privacy Policy from the verification screen.
Verify your identity
Have your government-issued ID with you, and find a spot with good light.
- Start - When the app asks you to verify (right after you set your password, or from a reminder later), tap Start Verification (Start verification on Android).
- Capture your ID - On Capture Document, point the camera at the front of your ID and take the photo. If the app asks, allow camera access.
- Confirm - Confirm the photo. The app checks that it can read your ID. On iPhone you then see Identification Passed; tap Ok to upload it.
- Done - You’ll see “Verification Complete” and “You are now able to access and manage this property.” Tap Ok.

If the app can’t read your ID, you’ll see “Government-issued ID Check Failed” on iPhone or “Couldn’t process your ID” on Android. Put the ID on a darker, non-reflective background, make sure every detail is visible with no glare or shadows, and try again.
If your community requires it
Each community decides whether ID verification is required.
- Required - There’s no skip button. Until you verify, the home screen shows “Government-issued ID verification required” (iPhone) or “ID verification required” (Android) instead of your guests and codes. Tap Verify Identity (Verify identity on Android) to start.
- Not required - You can tap Skip And Verify Later (Skip and verify later on Android). A Verify Your Identity reminder then stays at the bottom of the home screen; tap it when you’re ready. Until you verify, some features ask you to verify first: creating one-time codes and, on iPhone, scanning QR codes and adding occupants. If your role at the property isn’t resident (for example, a guest or community staff), managing guests and opening notifications ask too.
If you skipped verification and later join a community that requires it, you’ll have to verify before you can use or manage that property.
Accounts for minors aren’t asked to verify.
